A compound exercise is an exercise which works multiple joints and muscles in one movement. If you are new to weightlifting you are more likely to see your arms grow from these types of exercises alone, although gains will be limited. Although, if you are an experienced lifter, working your biceps and triceps in isolation is going to be more important for growth. Make sure to vary your arm exercise as much as possible and focus on working your arms through different angles.
